Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need therapy?

I’m a believer that therapy is for all people. Whether you feel in “need” of treatment or you desire a space that’s solely focused on you to heal, explore, and learn about yourself and new ways of coping, then it’s warranted. If you’re reading this now, it means you’re curious about what therapy with me could be like and how it might benefit you. I’d love to hear from you to talk more about it!

Who do you work with?

I primarily work with college students, women in any stage of motherhood (including fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and throughout pregnancy), teens, and adults.

Though my primary focus is on eating disorders, anxiety, and maternal mental health, I have worked with adolescents and adults of all walks of life with various concerns for years. I welcome the opportunity to talk with you if you’re interested in a phone consultation.

What happens during the phone consultation?

Prior to scheduling a first therapy session, I provide a free 15-minute phone consultation. The purpose of this phone call is for us to introduce ourselves, for me to briefly learn about what brings you to therapy, and then for us to determine if I’m the right fit to help you meet your needs. Therapy is a relationship, and just like relationships in your personal life, connection is key. I set aside time during the phone call for you to ask any initial questions about therapy with me, payment, etc. that come to mind before our first session.

What happens during our first session?

During our initial session, we’ll have more time to get to know each other. I will also ask you more questions in this session than others. This is so I can learn more about what makes you, you—both in the past and present. This includes things such as: what your current concerns are, your strengths, family dynamics, social supports, work/school experiences, and various life events. This session is also when we will begin to explore goals you have for treatment, the vision you have for your life during and after therapy, and how I can be most helpful in our work together.

Will any information from session be shared?

Therapy is a sacred space, where everything from your presence in therapy to any information you share remains completely confidential. This means that, on my end, anything you say session stays between the two of us. As a client, you are of course able to share any information you want with loved ones about your experience. However, I will include other necessary individuals if you have chosen to sign a Release of Information for me to speak with another provider or loved one, or when safety is in jeopardy. This includes if you express intent to harm yourself or someone else, or a child or elderly individual is being harmed.

What is your fee?

Each session costs $135 ($150, effective January 1, 2023). Payment is due in full at the time of service, and can be made by debit/credit card, Health Savings Account, or Flexible Spending Account. When beginning services, all clients complete and sign a credit card authorization form. This information is securely stored, and payments are processed at the time of service. This creates an easier payment process, which allows for our entire session to be focused on you, uninterrupted.

Do you take my insurance?

After a great deal of thought, reflection, and consideration, I have made the decision at this time I would be an out-of-network provider with insurance companies. I decided that I didn’t want insurance companies (who do not know my clients, and have little training in therapy) dictating how to provide care to my clients, and for how long they can have treatment.

Since I am considered an Out-of-Network provider, payment is due at the time of session, and if you’re interested, I can provide you with a Superbill (a detailed receipt outlining the services you’ve received) that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I do also accept Health Savings Account/Flexible Savings account cards as payment.

It’s important that you contact your insurance company ahead of time to find out what your Out-of-Network benefits are, which can be done by calling the number on the back of your insurance card. I cannot guarantee what the outcome will be since every plan is different, but many individuals receive some reimbursement for sessions this way.

If you have any questions about this during our phone consultation, or along the way during therapy, please ask and we can discuss this further.

Let’s do this together.

Please fill out the form to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. I will return your message within two business days. I look forward to hearing from you!
